The schoolhouse and its surroundings

Nordic International School is planning for a new school in Täby. The school will be located in newly renovated premises on Kanslihusgränd 8 near Hägernäsbadet, two minutes from the stop for bus 604. Surrounding the school there is a fantastic outdoor environment with big areas for recess and other fun activities during and after school hours.

History

During the first half of the 20th century, the school area was home to Roslagen’s Air Force Wing, which also went by the name F2 Hägernäs. From here, the Air Force conducted naval reconnaissance and here conscripts and officers were trained. The Air Force Wing was the only one in Sweden that did not have a runway for planes. The proximity to the water meant that you could instead roll the floatplanes straight into the water from the hangars. One of the hangars has been preserved and renovated for use as a parking garage for cars.

The big yellow building will be our schoolhouse. On the lower level of the building, we will have our refectory where the school lunch is prepared by us from scratch. In front of the building, down towards the water, a schoolyard will be planned with plenty of space for recesses with areas for playing and resting. Next to the school building there is a forest area that shields the school area from traffic and surrounding residential buildings. On the site, there are also other buildings that will be taken into use in the coming years and form our campus as the school grows.

The almost 100-year-old yellow building, which will be our schoolhouse, was for many years an office building for the military. Before the start of school the house will be renovated to meet the requirements of a modern school.

The proximity to Hägernäsbadet provides opportunities for fun sports activities all year round and swimming during the warm part of the year.
